I needed this break so that when I wrote it was coming from a place of willingness and not becoz I was doing it just for the sake of appearances. So here I am... to share thoughts and musings that interest me in this new year.
After listening to the Telugu and Tamil versions of "Kaara Attakara" and "Mental Madhilo/OK Jaanu" tracks, I am frankly burnt out on those tracks. Yes, it is my fault that I did overdid them in Telugu and Tamil and now when I play the Hindi versions the taste is a little too familiar.
What really caught my attention were "Enna Sona", "Maula Wa Sallim", "Sunn Bhavara", and "The Humma Song".
Yes, I am okay with reboots of old songs if it is done right. I think Humma rehash is done right and 21sted in the best possible way imaginable. It is fun to listen, makes me enjoy the newness in it while bringing back all the old memories from the original song. Yeah, for those that are born yesterday, there was a Humma song made in 93/94 and this is a rehash of the old song. Yes, we heard it first!!
Enna Sona - I really don't quite know where to begin with this one. There are some songs that touch your heart chords in many different ways and this is one of those songs. I have to give first kudos to Mr. Gulzar saheb. Amazing lyrics. I had to bug a punjabi friend of mine to help me with the translation and was blown away with the meaning. Arijit Singh gets the next credit for his soothing voice and clean and simple rendition. This guy is a powerhouse to watch out for. ARR gets the last but the best credit for not only giving fresh tune for this ballad instead of trying to redo the song from Tamil and Telugu versions. That song "Aye Amayaka" is beautiful too but with "Enna Sona" ARR hit it out of the park. I think this is an example of what songs should be like. The emotions are words are the king and those should be aptly supported by vocals and tune.
Sunn Bhavara is a melodious composition and it is just a delight to sit back in a chair, close eyes, and listen to Shashaa Tirupati. This hindustani raag based composition brings out the best out of Shashaa. This is my favorite song in the album after Enna Sona. Also important to note that ARR changed the tune from what was used in the Tamil and Telugu versions. Loved the composition!!
All in all a very well made album. Go give it a listen!! Two thumbs up from me.
