Imagine this! You are walking on a quite street around dusk time, no one around you and the weather is nice and breezy. And then imagine that you have your headphones on and this song is blaring into your ears. There are very few things that can beat this feeling. Try it!
I will run out of words if I started praising Arijit Singh. He is hands down one of the most talented singer this generation has seen. Such maturity, such beautiful voice quality, such intensity, and such talent is a rare combination. He reminds me of Sonu Nigam only an even better version.
Shall we say that Ranbir Kapoor is a combination of all the talent and the good looks that the Kapoor genes could bestow in one person. He is universe's answer to indian movie fans for putting up with all his family members from previous generations. Pritam is evolving, Karan Johar is evolving, RK, AS, and ARB are all evolving as actors... I am looking forward to this movie and the music album.
If Karan Johar is trying to grab people's attention by this teaser roll out, he got my attention alright!!
Independence day used to mean a fun day where we celebrated with cultural events, athletics, patriotism, friendship, and sweets. It also meant a day-off from the regular fare of attending classes. Slowly it transitioned to a holiday and a chance to wake up late as school days progressed to college days. After moving across the oceans, it turned into a day that one hardly remembered and wished family members and friends back home, always a day late. After several years of mind-numbing, it is a day one often forgot until they started receiving gazillion watsapp messages about. I think the brain partly takes this date out of my head as a coping mechanism. I frankly don't know what to make of the independence day now that I don't live in the country anymore. It is a day when guilt takes over the feeling of happiness of acquiring the independence. Conflict takes form in my head and I am not quite sure yet how that conflict must be resolved. And then I chance upon a song like this, which always has a way of pulling my heart strings and then the conflict intensifies. Hope you all have a much more resolved and conflict free independence day. For now, listen to this and pay tribute to the country that made you who you are.
Not that I need his birthday as a reminder to think of him. Kishore Da and his music has been intrinsic to my being. I literally grew up on his music and so many phases of my life can be described in terms of the Kishore Da songs I used to listen to at that time.
He is such a unique artist with no formal training and yet singing complex songs with supreme ease. Very rarely does an artist take a song and pour soul into it. Kishore Da managed to do that with every one of his songs. I would give an arm and leg to have been around when he was alive and kicking. But alas, all i got are sweet memories of him left to the future generations in the form of songs or anecdotes. His life story would be an amazing story to be told, if done right!
I thought long and hard what song of his I should post here on the eve of his birthday. Just based on how I am feeling this morning, this song has been playing peekaboo in my brain. A bit sombre for the happy occasion of his birthday but direct dilse. So here goes!
